Supplies from Israel to Jordan have been disrupted Cairo sends 100m cubic feet daily Agreed until Israeli supplies resume Egypt increases diesel consumption Egypt has reportedly increased its supply of natural gas to Jordan following the disruption of Israeli gas flows. Cairo has been supplying Jordan with 100 million cubic feet of natural gas per day to power its plants, Arabic news portal Ashraq Business reported, citing Egyptian and Jordanian officials. The flow of gas has been increased despite Cairo grappling with its own shortage, which led to power outages last summer. Egypt and Jordan signed a deal in December 2024 that allows Jordan to use Egypt’s floating storage and regasification units for liquefied natural gas imports through to 2026. The arrangement with Egypt will remain in place until gas shipments from Israel resume, the report said, quoting a Jordanian official. The reduction in Israeli supply comes as tensions escalate in the region since Israel launched strikes on Iran on Friday. While Egypt has decided to increase diesel fuel consumption at power plants, the government is considering proposals to reinstate the load-shedding policy if supplies continue to be in short supply, Ashraq Business reported, quoting a government official. This month, Egypt signed contracts to purchase additional liquefied natural gas from global energy companies such as Saudi Aramco, to meet peak summer electricity demand and falling domestic production.
